Let's Talk About the Tariff War.

Fight Tariffs. Shop Local!

Tariffs are impacting industries across the US and furniture is no exception. The tariff wars coming from the White House include reciprocal tariffs on China and Vietnam, where the majority of US purchased furniture originates. Although the tariffs have not been fully implemented yet, inflation on furniture has seen a significant spike since Trump's plan was first announced in March. A Strategic Insights poll found that the tariff war is expected to significantly impact 70% of home-furnishing businesses. Likely impacts include higher prices and delayed shipping for customers. For furniture companies, they may have to shift to more expensive material sourcing and face lower profit margins. While representatives from fast-furniture companies such as Wayfair have made statementsregarding their intent to mitigate such concerns, we can't expect them to keep prices affordable and aim to increase quality matching that of a vintage piece.

Luckily for you, Magpie is committed to bringing you the best in vintage, helping you furnish your home with care and consideration for the environment. Not to mention the tariffs don't impact our pricing. In addition to being full of vintage charm and incredible quality, antique furniture has a carbon footprint 16 times lowerthan modern furniture. Magpie aims to reduce our footprint even further by keeping vintage circulating in our community. We prefer to source pieces from the DMV and Rick is always challenging himself with a new restoration project to extend the life of a piece for another 50 years (or more). By investing in a unique piece from Magpie, you're not just furnishing your house with quality furniture. You're also supporting a small business, showing love to Mother Earth and avoiding those pesky tariffs.
